Business Requirements Identification



The network management and software engineering teams of a health plan in greater Boston were undertaking an effort to build a new EDI transmission platform for selected trading partners using SOA technologies. We solicited information from key business units to ensure that the new platform met the business needs in addition to satisfying the technical requirements.



Strategy and Procedure Development



The IT group of a large, highly rated health plan in the Boston area initiated a process to move its intranet to a new technology platform. We developed the enterprise intranet strategy and oversaw the development of pilot sites on the new platform. This ensured that the new platform achieved the desired business objectives, which included adherence to consistent procedures for the development and operation of sites in the new enviroment.



Program Reorganization and Management



The global eBusiness program of a large, multinational medical equipment manufacturer encountered significant delays and difficulties, and failed to produce the planned deliverables at a major milestone. We were called in to assist with getting the program back on track. To rectify the situation, we developed a comprehensive program plan and reorganized the program structure, workstreams and team meeting schedule. We then managed the newly revised program, now a re-energized effort with renewed momentum due to the correcive actions taken.



Portfolio Management and Backlog Elimination



When asked to manage the Medicare Advantage Project Portfolio for a very large, Boston-based health plan, there were well over a dozen projects in the portfolio, some which were inactive and had been in the queue for almost 3 years. After a full review of the projects and their relative priorities, we were able to direct the offshore software engineering team and local business analysts to successfully complete the backlogged projects in less than 6 months while working within the allocated budget and not adversely affecting progress of the other projects in the portfolio.



Technology and Business Plan Development



​One of the principals of a startup focused on the development of clinical mobile healthcare applications invited us to join the effort to provide the necessary technology and general business expertise. This venture, which was based on the intellectual property (published medical papers) developed by the principals, focused specifically on the reduction of a pervasive area of disparities in the clinical delivery of healthcare. We created the software development approach for the venture and, in addition, created the draft business plan and business case, and other essential documents, which provided the required additional structure for the initiative.




Process Analysis and Redesign



The chancellor of a large, public university requested our assistance in addressing the rising volume of demands on his office in a constrained budget environment. We conducted an analysis of the associated business processes, staff roles and their respective responsibilities within the office. Based on this information we redesigned the information flow and some of the intake and review procedures, and clarified and revised the associated staff roles and responsibilities. The result was an improvement in efficiency and the ability to manage the increased volumes with no additions to staff.



Project Recovery and Management



Several prior iterations of a Master Data Management (MDM) project in the IT group at a well-known institution of higher education in Boston failed to deliver successful outcomes. We were asked to plan and manage a new iteration of this effort. We began by conducting individual discussions with principal stakeholders representing IT and other business units. We then developed a new project plan, identified related projects with which to coordinate and managed the effort through to completion, including development of a new data dictionary. Completion of this effort resulted in the introduction of new self-service capabilities for users of the Data Dictionary and Operational Data Store.
